Step 1: Gather Essential Tools
A sturdy tape measure is the most crucial tool for measuring your room. Avoid using dressmaker's tape, which can stretch, resulting in inaccurate measurements. Keep a notebook and pencil handy to sketch and jot down measurements for reference during furniture shopping.

Step 2: Enlist a Handy Helper
Having a second person (i.e., a neighbor, friend, or family member) to assist you can be invaluable, especially when navigating furniture or other obstacles. They can hold one end of the tape measure or help move items temporarily obstructing your path. You can also rely on our professional designers to ensure your space is measured accurately. Step 3: Conduct Wall & Door Measurements
Start at one corner of the room and measure the length of the wall or space to the opposite corner or to the inside edge of a door or window. Repeat throughout the space. For windows, measure from the floor to the trim height, and for doors, measure from the floor to the inside top.

Take note of existing room features such as ceiling fixtures, electrical outlets, light switches, fireplace, coffee table, end table, ottoman, floor or wall vents, and TV. While not every feature needs measurements, ensure larger items like fireplaces and TVs are measured for furniture layout accuracy.
